# Reddit App Setup Macro
|
|
|
|
## Purpose
|
|
Automates the creation of a Reddit API application ("script" type) for use with the Latent Signal ingestor.
|
|
|
|
## Justification
|
|
- **Legitimate access**: User's own Reddit account
|
|
- **No API alternative**: Reddit requires web UI to create apps
|
|
- **One-time setup**: Run once to get credentials, then use API thereafter
|
|
|
|
## What It Does
|
|
1. Opens Reddit app preferences page
|
|
2. Waits for user to log in (if needed)
|
|
3. Creates a new "script" type application
|
|
4. Extracts client_id and client_secret
|
|
5. Writes credentials to `../../.env`
|
|
|
|
## Usage
|
|
|
|
```bash
|
|
# Install dependencies
|
|
pip install -r requirements.txt
|
|
|
|
# Run (browser will open)
|
|
python main.py
|
|
```

|
|
|
## Manual Steps Required
|
|
- You must log in to Reddit manually when prompted
|
|
- The macro will wait for you to complete login before proceeding
|
|
|
|
## Output
|
|
Creates/updates `../../.env` with:
|
|
