d0a52e4530 feat(m11): catch-up timer retry + TSEG segment version header (m11p4)
WAL segment format: 8-byte TSEG header (magic + version byte + 3 reserved)
prepended to every new segment. Legacy headerless segments (m0-m11p3) read
as implicit v0 — no migration. Unknown magic/version surfaces as
WalError::SegmentFormatUnknown at open time; foreign files are never
repaired or truncated (fixes the silent data-loss path from the p3 rollout
incident where torn-tail repair zeroed a follower's unreadable segments).

Catch-up transport: FAILED_PRECONDITION ("snapshot required") and stream
errors that skip the shard now arm a timer retry (re-arm-on-skip is the
load-bearing liveness fix — without it a skipped pull never re-fires and
the follower stays permanently behind). Single retry pending per shard;
CatchupRunner owns the Arc'd state shared between the retry tasks and the
transport. Test: tidal-net/tests/catchup_retry.rs covers the retry path.

Stress: k8s stress-job-t2a/t2b yaml + ops/stress-test-p3-t2 runbook.

5ed2edb211 feat(m11): quorum-acked writes — ack=leader|quorum, commit index, durable frontier reports (m11p3)
ack=quorum gates replicated writes on a majority of the replica set durably
holding them: followers push their durably-applied frontier (ReportApplied,
once per apply round, decoupled from ship acks), the leader folds frontier
reports + ship-ack hints + heal resumes into a leadership-scoped CommitIndex
(k-th-largest durable mark), and handlers await it through an async
watch-channel bridge (zero parked threads per waiter). Honest timeouts:
retryable 503 naming the laggards; x-tidal-seq on every cluster write.
Follower blob applies are batched under group-commit fsyncs (22x seeding).
Exit gate: 167/167 leader-SIGKILL kill points, zero acked-write loss.

Seven-dimension review pass (all confirmed findings fixed):
- WAL blob drain now ABORTS on the first write failure instead of reusing
the failed seqno mid-drain (a torn record buried mid-segment would
truncate every later acked record on replay)
- apply_replicated_blobs waits every staged append even after a mid-batch
failure, parses metadata once, and moves records into Arcs shared with
the WAL writer (no deep clone per record on the follower apply path)
- CommitIndex: zero-peer fast path now respects demotion (active checked
under lock before the single-replica return), k-th-largest uses
select_nth over a reused scratch buffer
- await_quorum: re-reads the index once after the deadline fires (no false
503 for a write that committed in the race window), warns when the
commit-watch bridge dies outside shutdown, zero-peer path checks active
- notify_applied report failures: WARN on the first failure of a streak,
INFO on recovery (a silently stalling frontier reads as unexplained
quorum 503s); receiver skips re-notifying unadvanced frontiers
- x-tidal-deduplicated: 1 marks dedup-suppressed signal writes (relayed
through forwards) so durability cursors can tell dedup from no-seqno
- docs: 167/167 kill-point record corrected in CHANGELOG; rolling-upgrade
order (leader first — a pre-m11p3 leader silently downgrades quorum
requests to leader-ack) in CHANGELOG + runbook §8; monitoring note for
report-loss diagnosis on the quorum-timeout alert

Verified: workspace clippy -D warnings (incl. cluster-e2e targets), full
tidaldb/tidal-net/tidal-server/tidalctl suites green, tier-3 multi-process
quorum suite green (8/8 kill points, zero acked loss, partition gate/recover).

225751d34d feat(m11): WAL-as-stream replication + perf floor (m11p1+m11p2)
m11p1 — decoupled ack/ship path: staged writes (seqno+WAL+relay-push,
microseconds) separate from group-commit fsync; ShipQueue batches+windows
outbound segments; receiver coalesces inbound chunks before applying.
Adds first tidaldb_cluster_* metrics.

m11p2 — leader WAL is now THE replicated log: fsynced batches feed a
bounded WalShipFeed and ship byte-identical to followers; WAL seqnos
survive restarts (relay-reset hazard gone). Item metadata and embeddings
journal kind-1/2 blob records on the same stream as signals; the m8p10
HTTP broadcast is deleted. StreamSegments catch-up is follower-pulled via
server-streaming RPC, triggered on gap detection, follower boot, and
leader heal nudge. Promote carries a stream baseline so peers skip
pre-stream history.

7e8b7b013a docs: roadmap to an enterprise-grade cluster (M11 candidate)
Gap analysis + 9-phase plan (m11p1-p9) from the experimental m8p10 cluster to an
enterprise-grade one, grounded in the 2026-06-10 live stress-test baselines:
replicated /signals ~90/s vs sharded 3,669/s vs embedded ~82ns, plus four
live-observed incidents (restart leadership amnesia, side-channel broadcast bugs,
breaker-eaten heal, the 178ms ship) promoted to requirements. Phases: perf floor,
one replicated log, quorum acks (G4), election+fencing (G5), membership/discovery,
sharding x RF, security, observability/ops, chaos CI — each with a testable
Ref-A exit gate; release waves v0.9 credible / v1.0 scalable / v1.1 enterprise.
Indexed in docs/README.md; pointer from ROADMAP's Post-M8 Follow-ups.

f640764d89 feat(tidal-stress): open-loop capacity load generator (thepeach feed workload)
New workspace crate: an open-loop, coordinated-omission-corrected HTTP load
generator + capacity ramp for the standalone and multi-process cluster surfaces,
modeling a thepeach feed session (feed reads + view/like/skip signals + search,
signal-dominated per their user-graph spec). Throttleable target rate, ramp
presets (smoke/quick/peach-100k/max) or rps:secs specs, peach/reads/writes/custom
mixes, leader vs sharded write paths, per-op p50/p90/p99/p999/max latency, a
backpressure-aware status breakdown (429/408/503/4xx/5xx/transport), and a verdict
translated to supported DAU. Runs in-cluster as a k8s Job (tidal-stress/k8s/).

Open-loop scheduler (scheduler.rs) fires at a fixed arrival rate and measures
latency from each request's intended send time, so a server stall inflates the
percentiles a closed-loop test hides; it shed-and-counts rather than blocking when
the in-flight cap is reached. Pure-Rust (tokio + reqwest/rustls), no engine deps.

Findings on the live 3-region k3s cluster (docs/ops/stress-test-thepeach.md):
reads scale to thousands/s at <15ms p99; the replicated /signals path saturates at
~90 signals/s (single-leader funnel + 2-worker write pool + synchronous gRPC ship);
the sharded path sustains 3,669 signals/s at 0 errors and ~27% cluster CPU (≈ the
100k-DAU peak, knee not reached). Overload degrades gracefully (429; 0 pod
restarts). thepeach's planned in-process embedding sidesteps all of it (write ≈82ns).

6f17409f40 fix(cluster): forwarded item/embedding writes never replicated; heal backfill 401'd under auth
Two correctness bugs in multi-process cluster mode (m8p10), both found live on a
real 3-pod k3s cluster while validating the deployment, both invisible to the
existing in-process / unauthenticated test suites:

1. Forwarded item/embedding writes dropped on the floor. create_item /
   write_embedding gated the leader's peer broadcast on `if internal { return }`.
A write to a NON-leader gateway is forwarded to the leader with the internal
marker set (loop-prevention), so it hit that branch and terminated WITHOUT
broadcasting — the item landed only on the leader. Signals were unaffected
(the WAL relay ships regardless of the marker), which masked it. Fix: gate on
leadership, not the marker — a follower applying a marked broadcast/heal
terminates; the leader (external OR forwarded) always fans out. Forwarded
writes now return the {replicated_to,failed} report instead of a bodyless null.

2. Heal item/embedding backfill 401'd whenever TIDAL_API_KEY is set.
post_marked_blocking sent the internal marker but no Authorization header. The
marker is a trust signal, not an auth bypass (the bearer middleware runs
first), so every backfill POST was rejected 401 — a region that missed an item
while down stayed permanently inconsistent at lag 0. Unauthenticated tests
never caught it. Fix: thread TIDAL_API_KEY into RegionClusterState and attach
it (same key on every region) to the backfill POSTs.

Verified live: forwarded writes via follower gateways converge to all 3 regions;
a region scaled to 0 during an item write backfills on heal (item_failures=0).
Follow-up: add multiproc regression tests with auth for both paths.

cdbaf4b475 ci(woodpecker): build-only pipeline (drop auto standalone deploy)
The deploy step did 'kubectl set image deployment/tidaldb' on every image
build, coupling image builds to a standalone roll. Deployment is manual via
kustomize from the orchard9-k3sf ops repo (its contract: no CI/CD deploy). The
one tidal-server binary serves both standalone and multi-process 'cluster
--region' modes, so this image covers the m8p10 3/3 cluster deploy too. Adds an
explicit 'm8p10' image tag for deterministic manifest pinning.

8a0950260f feat(m8p10): multi-process cluster mode — scatter-gather, reconcile relay, chaos/UAT suites
Splits monolithic cluster.rs into tidal-server/src/cluster/ modules. Adds redeliver-missed
relay, bounded HLC drift, lag tracking, and reconcile idempotence. Five new tier-3 test suites
(chaos, lifecycle, multiproc, region, routes, runbook) all green. Docs, CHANGELOG, and ROADMAP
updated with G4/G5/G6 known gaps.

0c99709990 fix(replication): redeliver_missed shipped to the wrong shard over gRPC
Partition recovery (heal_region) and await_convergence never worked over real
GrpcTransports: redeliver_missed sent to entry.source_shard (the LEADER's
shard), but a follower's transport only knows its own shard as a peer
(self-loop wiring in tidal-server::cluster), so every recovery ship failed
the peer lookup — and the error was swallowed by 'let _ ='. ChannelTransport
ignores the destination, which is why the in-process suite never caught it.

Found live on k3s: POST /cluster/partition + writes + /cluster/heal left the
region at lag=3 forever, no log line.

Fix: ship to transport.local_shard() (matching the eager path's
send_segment(ShardId(region.0), ...)); keep entry.source_shard in the payload
(receiver advances applied_seqno per SOURCE shard). WARN on ship failure
instead of dropping it. Adds a RecordingTransport regression test that locks
dest == local_shard + payload source == leader — the exact case channels
cannot catch. cargo test: 263 replication + 13 testing + tidal-server all
pass.

5d211abce0 docs: record post-remediation re-review fixes in seven-dimension review
Document the six issues a follow-up adversarial sweep surfaced in the
M0-M10 remediation diff and their fixes (code already landed):

- BLOCKER warm-tier double-count was a half-fix (read side only); now
bounded on read + write (hour_agg anchored at last_min) + day tier.
- CRITICAL W22 stale-index scrub now wired into the item overwrite path.
- CRITICAL checkpoint read() made side-effect-free; temp-sweep moved to
  the writable recover() path.
- WARNING W13 partition_id wired at construction; W22-class social-graph
  /collection u32 truncation routed through checked entity_as_u32.

Updates the green-state line (1672 lib tests, clippy -D on all crates).

b16025b8b2 feat: pluggable cluster transport + multi-process E2E test harness
Three changes closing M8 gaps identified during verification:

1. ROADMAP.md: Mark m8p8 and m8p10 as PARTIAL (not COMPLETE).
   Added Known Gaps table (G1: in-process transport, G2: tier-3
   tests, G3: hash inconsistency).

2. SimulatedCluster transport now pluggable via ClusterConfig.transports.
Default (None) uses new ChannelTransport (crossbeam, same behavior).
When Some, accepts external transports (e.g., GrpcTransport from
   tidal-net). Updated redeliver_missed to use &dyn Transport.
Zero regressions: all 1209 lib + 8 m8_uat tests pass unchanged.

3. Multi-process E2E test harness (tidal-server/tests/cluster_e2e.rs).
ClusterHarness spawns real tidal-server cluster OS processes,
allocates dynamic ports, generates topology YAML, polls health,
and cleans up via SIGTERM. Two tests: smoke (write + converge +
verify follower reads) and promote (leader change + continued writes).
   Feature-gated behind cluster-e2e.

fe711870be feat: M8 phases 7-10 — gRPC transport, cluster server, scatter-gather, multi-node UAT
Delivers the distributed fabric's network layer and HTTP cluster surface:

**m8p7: tidal-net crate (gRPC transport)**
- GrpcTransport implementing Transport trait via tonic 0.12
- Per-peer circuit breaker (Closed/Open/HalfOpen), mutual TLS via rustls
- Boxed error types (clippy-clean), graceful mutex recovery, debug_assert
against calling block_on from tokio context
- Proto: WalShipping service (ShipSegment, StreamSegments stub, Heartbeat)
- 19 tests: contract, mTLS, reconnection, multi-node UAT, benchmarks

**m8p8: cluster subcommand + HTTP routes**
- ClusterState wrapping SimulatedCluster with region name mapping
- Routes: /health, /cluster/status, /cluster/promote, /partition, /heal
- Data routes: /items, /embeddings, /signals, /feed, /search (region-aware)
- Ranking profiles wired through ClusterConfig to all cluster nodes
- Topology YAML config, docker/cluster/Dockerfile (ENTRYPOINT+CMD, non-root)

**m8p9: scatter-gather query routing**
- Entity-sharded writes via Knuth multiplicative hash
- Scatter-gather RETRIEVE and SEARCH with deadline propagation (50ms-5ms)
- Partial failure: degraded=true with unavailable_shards metadata
- 6 tests: distribution, determinism, multi-shard retrieve, degraded
partial results, deadline propagation, scatter-gather search

**m8p10: gRPC transport integration tests**
- 8 tests over real gRPC: replication convergence, idempotent replay,
mixed signals, 3-node fan-out, partition/heal, degraded follower, perf
- Documented as tier-2 (in-process+gRPC); tier-3 multi-process pending

006d3d058a fix: populate signal_snapshot in ranking results and fix quickstart demo
- Score and boost contributions now captured per candidate in signal_snapshot:
  score_by_sort() returns (f64, Vec<(String, f64)>) with named signal values
(e.g. view_velocity, share_velocity, view, like). Boost contributions are
appended as `{signal}_boost`. compute_raw_score() threads the snapshot
through; score_inner() and score_personalized() write it onto ScoredCandidate
instead of always initialising to vec![].

- Quickstart switched from `trending` to `hot` profile. The trending profile
scores by 24h velocity, which requires signals to arrive over real elapsed
time to populate hour-level bucket aggregates — impossible in a self-contained
demo. The hot profile (AllTime view count + age decay) works with any timestamp
and produces clearly differentiated scores. Signals now use different counts
per item to drive meaningful ranking output.

1d826c87b2 feat: schema-level ranking profile definitions
Add support for defining ranking profiles in schema YAML, allowing
deployments to override builtin profiles with deployment-specific
signal names and tuning parameters.

- Add override_register() to ProfileRegistry for clean builtin replacement
- Add with_profiles() to TidalDbBuilder to thread schema profiles
- Parse profiles section in config.rs with full sort/strategy/agg support
- Validate that profile signal references exist in schema at startup
- Change load_schema() to return (Schema, Vec<RankingProfile>)

This closes the gap where the builtin for_you profile referenced
signals (view, like, share) that don't exist in deployment schemas,
causing all feed scores to normalize to 1.0.

6f26d03c77 feat(m9): implement purge re-materialization engine
Adds the M9 purge re-materialization feature: a WAL-replay background
engine that rebuilds community cohort aggregates for a (user, community)
pair after retroactive signal purge, restoring ranking correctness without
modifying the immutable WAL.

Key additions:
- cohort::rematerialization module: PurgeJobQueue, RematerializationEngine,
WAL replay, atomic CohortSignalLedger swap, BLAKE3 audit log, metrics counters
- TidalDb::{submit_purge_job, purge_job_status, rematerialization_metrics}
  public API (db/rematerialization.rs)
- Engine auto-starts in persistent mode; clean shutdown before WAL teardown
- 6 integration tests in tests/m9_purge_remat.rs covering ephemeral and
persistent modes, job lifecycle, and multi-job independence
- Split oversized files to comply with 600-line limit: db/mod.rs →
  db/from_parts.rs, entities/revocation.rs → revocation/{mod,tests}.rs,
  schema/validation/builders.rs → builders/{mod,tests}.rs,
  signals/warm.rs → warm/{mod,tests,proptests}.rs
- Fix pre-existing bootstrap errors: export AuditKind from session module,
  add overrides_rejected to SessionSnapshot deserialization

81bb7b24e7 fix: rebuild item indexes from durable storage on restart
After a pod restart, in-memory indexes (universe bitmap, category,
format, creator, tags, duration, created_at) were empty because they
were only populated by write_item_with_metadata() calls. This caused
/health to report items: 0 and queries to return no results despite
data persisting on disk in fjall storage.

Add rebuild_item_indexes() which scans the items keyspace for Tag::Meta
entries on startup and repopulates all indexes from stored metadata.
Update m2_uat crash recovery test to assert indexes survive restart
without rewriting items.

eca7765e8d fix: heal_region re-delivers missed WAL batches so partitioned followers converge immediately after heal
- Extract redeliver_missed(tx, db, log) helper into cluster_transport.rs
- heal_region now removes partition then immediately ships any missed
batch-log entries to the healed follower's channel
- await_convergence refactored to call the same helper (no logic change)
- tidal-server: reload_text_index before search in cluster mode
- tidal-server: write_signal returns Result instead of panicking on unknown signal
- tidal-server: leader shows lag_events=0 (writes directly, no receiver thread)
- tidal-server: fix cluster mode error propagation (ServerError::from)
- docs/runbooks/cluster.md: add full cluster operations runbook
- docker/: add Dockerfile for containerised cluster deployment
- README.md: add tidal-server HTTP API getting-started section
- Split oversized source files per CODING_GUIDELINES §9

51b4d1bbd6 fix: repair tidal-server compilation and verify standalone HTTP server
Fix 9 compilation errors across tidal-server and testing/cluster.rs so
that `cargo run -p tidal-server -- standalone` works end-to-end.

Bugs fixed:
- cluster.rs: wrong return types `RetrieveResult`→`Results` and
  `SearchResult`→`SearchResults` on retrieve/search helpers
- state.rs: `RegionId` imported from private path; now uses
  `tidaldb::replication::RegionId`
- state.rs: missing `Ok()` wrapper on `ServerState::cluster()` return
- state.rs: cluster match arms returned `TidalError` where `ServerError`
  required; added `.map_err(ServerError::from)` on write_item,
  write_embedding, retrieve, search
- error.rs: `Result<T>` alias lacked default E param; callers in router
  used two-arg form `Result<T, AppError>` — changed to
  `Result<T, E = ServerError>`
- router.rs: `with_state()` called before cluster routes were added,
making `app` `Router<()>`; restructured to call `with_state` once at end
- router.rs: `TidalErrorWrapper(TidalError)` used to map `QueryError`;
  fixed with `|e| TidalErrorWrapper(e.into())`
- router.rs: `Search::limit()` takes `u32` but code cast to `usize`
- router.rs: `bm25_score`/`semantic_score` are `f32` in SearchResultItem
but `f64` in response struct; added `.map(f64::from)` conversion

Also split cluster.rs into cluster.rs + cluster_transport.rs to stay
under the 600-line limit required by CODING_GUIDELINES §9.

Verified all README curl examples work:
  POST /items, POST /embeddings, POST /signals, GET /feed, GET /search,
GET /health all return correct HTTP status codes and JSON responses.

fd95dfc2be fix: restore session metadata and annotations after crash recovery
deserialize_start_record now returns the full (session_id, user_id,
started_at_ns, metadata) tuple — the metadata bytes were already written
by serialize_start_record but silently discarded on read.

restore_session_wal_events looks up the persisted start record in storage
for each open session and uses the deserialized metadata instead of
HashMap::new(), so fields like {"tool":"planner"} survive a crash.

The signal replay loop no longer discards _annotation — annotations are
now pushed into state.annotations during WAL replay, restoring preference
hints like "more jazz today" so FOR SESSION ranking works post-restart.

Two new integration tests in session_durability.rs verify both fixes
against a real persistent store with simulated crash (drop without
close_session). session/serde.rs split into serde/mod.rs + serde/start_record.rs
to satisfy the 600-line limit.

29400d48db feat: implement Milestone 1 phases 1-3 — schema, WAL, and storage layer
Implements the foundation of tidalDB's data pipeline:

**Phase 1 – Schema primitives**
- EntityId newtype (u64, big-endian ordering)
- SignalTypeDefinition with pre-computed decay λ, deduped/sorted windows
- SchemaBuilder with full constraint validation (duplicates, identifiers,
  half-life, windows, velocity)
- LumenError wrapping all subsystems with required From impls

**Phase 2 – Write-Ahead Log**
- Length-prefixed, BLAKE3-protected entry format
- Group-commit writer (batch up to 100 events / 10 ms)
- Double-buffered content-hash deduplication
- Checkpoint, truncation, and crash-recovery with full replay
- Integration, property, and UAT tests (incl. 5,500-event deterministic UAT)
- Proptest coverage scaled to 10 000 events/run (was ≤500) to meet
acceptance criterion; cases reduced 100→10 to keep runtime comparable

**Phase 3 – Storage engine**
- StorageEngine trait (get/put/delete/scan/batch/flush)
- Key encoding: [EntityId][0x00][Tag][suffix] with ordering/prefix helpers
- InMemoryBackend (BTreeMap + RwLock)
- FjallStorage with three isolated keyspaces and atomic batch helper
- Property tests for key ordering and round-trip correctness

Also adds planning docs for phases 4-5, research docs, architecture
overview, and roadmap updates.
